San Telmo | Español
Once the center of the city, San Telmo is clear proof that Buenos Aires has existed for more than four centuries. This is evident from the many and varied old buildings that are now protected for their historical heritage. Here you can find most of the “tanguerías” or tango clubs. In Plaza Dorrego and its surroundings you can feel that tango atmosphere reproduced by the rhythm of the bandoneon. Artisans and antique stands gather here, and tango dancers usually perform their shows in the open air. Since San Telmo has been declared a historical area it has developed enormously from the point of view of its buildings and stores. Many century old houses have been recycled into stores and picturesque restaurants.
